There is this thing in the wonderfull world of porn that bites like no other. It's that there is NO punk porn out there (there is, but I'll get to that), especially no GAY punk porn. Sure you can get the occasional german pig flick, but even then it's generally fetish related. And that's the problem with punks and goth types in porn. They only ever get cat for fetish roles. Producers and viewers alike see us in that light only. These people dress like freaks, therefore they get the freakiest roles in the industry. Sure it's a market, but is it all that we as punks and goth's want to see? Yes most of us own a selection of porn that is non-fetish related, but how much do we have that use "real" punks? Myself and a few others have been searching fo it, and have no results. Many people claim it's out there, but no one can bring any to the table. So in this we have decided to be the first co. to produce it. Our first production is going to be strictly a gay production. And because this will be the first film of it's kind, we want it to be exactly the style of film we as punks would want to see. Picture a "decline of the western civilization" overall feel, but with porn. Then add in a music video feel to it. Grainy, scratchy, and kind of in your face. That's the best way to describe what we are going after. Feel free to check out our myspace page as well. Click here, or copy and paste this link: http://www.myspace.com/conflictproductions . Right now we are seeking fresh talent and a fan base. We will have a website and trailer up soon as well. So myself (Ratt Bones), and Michelle Aston (porn star/dominatrix) have gotten together to bring you what the industry is lacking, and what punks want to see. So please add us on your myspace, and if your interested in helping us make this happen the right way, send us an email at: conflictproduction@gmail.com. Hopewe here from all of you!

here's my piece from this week's LA ALTERNATIVE on what happened ...

Dicky Gets Sacked
Finally, there’s NO reason to get up in the morning…again.
by Brian Mazo

“… the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools tryin’ to anaesthetize the way that you feel…” - Elvis Costello, “Radio, Radio”

It took me a while-a long while actually-after tuning into Indie 103.1’s new Mighty Morning Show about a year ago, to get over host Dicky Barrett’s terribly grating New England accent. But then the bastard started playing the Dogmatics, a long since defunct Boston rock’n'roll outfit-consider them New England’s answer to the Replacements-and he made me a committed fan and listener. I got over the accent and started to learn to love Dicky Barrett.

The courting continued through the buzz of Tat-Tuesdays (where guests got inked on-air) and the Liquid Breakfast at Molly Malone’s last St. Patty’s Day. I almost wound up with a shamrock on my Jewish ass that morning. The show was at the best obnoxious; Barrett or his guests constantly interrupted Liz Warner’s news updates. Barrett’s mom would call in, a mock high school teachers too. If you wanted the news and the traffic, best to tune in elsewhere. But if you wanted to be entertained and rocked during your morning commute, you could do no better anywhere else on your L.A. radio dial.

But my courtship with the ex-Bosstone ended abruptly last week, when the radio station pulled the plug on the Mighty Morning Show and sacked Dicky Barrett.

Why would Indie 103.1 fire an incredibly successful host and pull his show from the airwaves without an honest-or any-explanation?

By the time the MMS hit the airwaves, we all knew that the station had been built to fuck with KROQ (Infinity) by people from KISS-FM (Clear Channel). But something funny happened on the way to the ratings report. Because of celebrity DJs such as Steve Jones and Dicky Barrett, Indie became good. Better than good-in fact, Rolling Stone called it “the coolest station in America.”

At that point, the FCC said Clear Channel-who operated Indie out of the Entravision offices-could no longer do so.

Indie became a full Entravision property. But the right-leaning Clear Channel program director and station manager (along with a lot of the behind the scenes technical employees) were already firmly in place. According to Barrett, the Programming Director Michael Steele and the Station Manager Dawn Girocco, came to believe their own hype. Barrett says the pair started “considering themselves radio geniuses who masterminded the Indie 103.1 phenomenon.”

So they took this opportunity to enforce their superior ‘radio wisdom’ and conventional ‘radio strategy’: the show was to be musically formatted, music heavily rotated, and “no guests too controversial,” Barrett recalls. “They said, ‘Soccer moms are listening in the a.m.’”

Barrett claims he was instructed to “’say the time and call letters ’til you’re blue in the face.’ I reluctantly went along with all this for about two weeks, hoping they would come to their senses,” said Barrett. A consultant was brought in to groom Barrett for wider appeal.

When Barrett made an on-air remark about not liking the new, overplayed Morrissey track, Dawn marched him into the office of Jeff Lieberman, Entravision’s president. According to Barrett, Jeff told Dawn he was not prepared to “strip Dicky of his opinion” and that she was visibly embarrassed. “This was the beginning of the end for me, and the writing was on the wall,” said Barrett.

Two weeks later, Barrett had a substantial, unauthorized, pro-choice conversation on the air with a South Dakota disc jockey and a few callers. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was not the direction supporters of the current administration wanted the station to go. Barrett was fired that day.

In a prepared statement Barrett wrote, “I loved doing the show, and loved the people who loved it.”

Girocco said, “We have been working with Barrett for the past five months trying to get the show to the next level. We invested a lot…in promoting and coaching him. Unfortunately it takes a lot of work to…grow a morning show as well as develop interesting, compelling content. This was not Barrett’s priority, as he had other commitments with Jimmy Kimmel Live, which was, in his words, his ‘bread and butter.’ Everyone at Indie has a tremendous commitment to the station and to the audience. We need to have a morning show that is able to make Indie their #1 priority.”

Barrett was fired for being unwilling to be, in Girocco’s words, ‘more mainstream.’ Barrett said, “it is unfair to let people think I walked away to put more work into loudly reading 20 to 30 words a night on Jimmy’s TV show. I worked hard on the Mighty Morning Show, and along with Stacey, Chuck, and Liz, built and grew it to what it was.”

When I spoke with Barrett the last time before filing this story, he sounded disconsolate, “still in the eye of the storm.” He declined to be photographed, not wishing to become some ‘woe is me’ poster child. Barrett said that he didn’t want this to appear as any sort of self-promotion. And you know what? After listening to him on a regular basis for the last year, I believe him. LAA

If you know of any good shows Oct 14/15 or 20/21 please do tell. I saw Sam I Am is playing which is kind of Berkeley retro. :)

GLEN MATLOCK & THE PHILLISTINES AT THE KNITTING FACTORY: 12/19/05

(Hollywood, CA) "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" Those were Johnny Rotten's final words to an American audience on the Sex Pistols' ill-fated US tour. Glen Matlock, architect of many of the Pistols' tunes had long been sacked by then - the joke was he was bounced out because he liked the Beatles. Matlock had the last laugh when it comes to Los Angeles - he was the first to play live here and with Iggy Pop no less. But laughs were few and far between at the, as billed, Glen Matlock (of the Sex Pistols) and the Phillistines gig at Hollywood's Knitting Factory in the end of December.

On the short stroll to the club from my nearby apartment, my friend Mike and I spotted Matlock seated at a table outside the Shelly Cafe, a Hollywood Boulevard greasy spoon, eating what appeared to be frozen yogurt. He and his fat, balding overweight drummer were not far from Kenny Loggins' star on the walk of fame. We said our hello's, told them we would be at the show and I asked if I could ask Glen some questions later at the after party at the Beauty Bar on Cahuenga.

When I picked up our tickets at will/call, we were already Complimentary numbers forty and forty-one. This did not bode well. The front bar area was sparsely populated by a crowd of ageing punks. I don't necessarily have a problem with that as I, too, am no longer a spring chicken. Had I known that the opening act, a bunch a New York Dolls wanna-be's were going to be the aural highlight of the evening, I would have caught more of their set.

Glen Matlock and the Phillistines took the stage nearly two hours later than they were scheduled to. I suppose they might have been waiting for someone to actually purchase a ticket. Matlock on bass, was flanked by two guitarists and his hefty drummer. It was after about four or five songs that Matlock decided to give the audience what they were there for. Taking off his jacket and getting serious, the band launched into a number that Matlock said he had written some time ago. "Anarchy in the UK" sounded weak and dated in the Phillistines' muddy hands. The crowd was thinning further; many who stayed were getting rowdy as if they were going to make this a punk rock show no matter what. There was some unwarranted pushing and shoving either out of boredom or drunkeness. I didn't care much one way or the other and moved to the periphery. Matlock, who admittedly looks good for his age if not unlike Davey Jones, furthered that with a cover of "Steppin' Stone". I suppose Matlock is entitled to earn a living but he presented nothing worth listening to. He really has a substandard voice and that became rather apparent as the night wore on and I do mean 'wore'.

Matlock had appeared earlier in the day on Jonesy's Jukebox on 103.1 and had talked his old bandmate into making one of those 'special, guest appearances'. Despite that, I was still rather surprised to see Steve Jones amble onto the stage, his silver guitar slung over his ample belly, late in the proceedings. Jones tried to have fun with it, dropping his ass onto one of the other guitarist's head but none of it helped. They slogged their way through a few more Pistols' classics including "Pretty Vacant" and "God Save the Queen" but truly this night and this band has 'no future'. Feeling almost Jesus-like in this the holiday season, I suffered through this so you wouldn't have to.

I was going to ask Matlock a few questions after the show but there really was nothing he could say that could sway my opinion. I decided to heed the old adage about not having anything nice to say. That doesn't mean I won't write it though.

This Friday, July 8th, Indie 103.1 and Linda Ramone will be hosting a charity fundraiser at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in honor of the legendary Ramones. Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the final resting place for Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone so we see it only fit that we show their infamous movie, Rock N Roll High School, in their final resting place. We'll be showing the movie right next to Johnny Ramones larger than life bronze memorial statue (Dee Dee's didn't have a huge space next to it)! That's right, Indie will be showing Rock N Roll High School right next to where the two legends have been interred. Plus, there will be lots of VIP guests on hand to speak about the rock n roll legends and remember their legacy. Guests include Indie's own Rob Zombie, Lars Frederickson from Rancid, Mickey Leigh, Marky Ramone and Vincent Gallo and of course our host Linda Ramone! Rock N Roll High School director Alan Arkush will even be on hand with the original pink Cadillac from the movie. Gates open at 7:30p and the intros and movie will start at 9pm. Grab your blanket, some friends, some grub (you can bring your own food and drink into the cemetery) and enjoy this tribute fundraiser to the Ramones under the stars. Leave Sparky and any other pets you have at home and don't bring any big chairs that will block other fans views. There is a suggested $15 donation to be paid at the gate. All proceeds will benefit Lymphoma and Prostate Cancer Research. Hollywood Forever Cemetery is located at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90038. For more information please call 323-469-1181.

For the first time ever, five of the most cohesive-sounding, dark, brooding, 70s/80s punk-influenced California bands will unite on one stage. If you give a shit whatsoever about our rising music scene, come tomorrow to the Lava Lounge on 1533 N. La Brea. It's between Hollywood and Sunset.

The bands, and their respected influences, are listed below. And when we say "influence" we don't refer to direct copies (aka rip-offs), we mean that they remind us of the past while adding their own spin on things.

The Geisha Girls: Wire and Gang of Four in a modern nutshell. Note the New Order cover.

The Lips: An offbeat new-wave taste of English post-punk, 60s jangle-pop, and early 80s LA-roots dispatched by collective minds as a car wrecked, full on force.

The Pretty Scars: Brooding, claustrophobic. An experimental beauty at its finest. Peter Murphy would be envious.

The Matachine: A deconstruction of mapped out anti-structural principles with a handful of singers expanding off the notion handed to us by the No-Wave swoon.

The TV Tube Hearts: Wearing the Dolls and 50s guitar-pop on their sleeves, this band happens to be the LA group that appears to be raised outside of CBGB's in the late-70s.

1533 N. La Brea
Hollywood, CA
9pm
$5 or less
21+

Don't miss this gig. It could break or compose your regrets. Much like Russian Roulette.

Burned-out and overturned cars litter St. Denis St. in front of the Medley last night after a riot by concertgoers broke out when the show was cancelled.

A professor from UQAM looked slack-jawed as she stepped out of the university building on St. Denis St. and took in the nightmarish scene.

Cars overturned in the middle of the street. Others charred or sporting smashed windshields. Store windows smashed. In all, at least 19 damaged vehicles.

The war-zone-like scene occurred during a riot that broke out last night following a cancelled punk concert at the Medley Bar at St. Denis and René Lévesque Blvd.

"It doesn't seem possible," said the woman, who didn't want her name published. "You feel like you're elsewhere and not in Montreal. We always feel safe in Montreal."

Mayhem erupted around 8 p.m.

That was when organizers announced that the band Exploited could not make the show.

Hundreds of young people milled around the street for about 45 minutes before the violence began. Several then picked up material from a nearby construction site and hurled the items at cars and windows, said a witness.

Minutes later, cars were overturned and set on fire, flames shooting out the side windows as firemen directed streams of water at them.

Some of the rioters grabbed a computer from one of the stores and hurled it at a car. The windows of one large music store, a clothing shop and a printer were smashed.

"There was a lot of anger," added Sylvain Bouchard, who said the concert was highly anticipated.

"People jumped on cars," said Bouchard, who had a ticket for the show. "They were on the hoods. They broke windshields. They turned cars upside down .... and they set them on fire."

"Let's start a war! We want to riot," is how one bystander described the shouts of the rioters.

The riot squad arrived and police sealed off streets. One police officer suffered a minor leg injury. A few security agents from the Medley were also injured from broken glass. The injuries were not serious, said police.

"Things are stirred up pretty good," said one police officer at the corner of René Lévesque and Sanguinet Ave. as he hopped into his cruiser.

"I find it deplorable," said Bouchard as he watched flames shooting up from two cars on St. Denis St.

"Miraculously, my car wasn't touched," said Amir Khadir, a physician and an unsuccessful candidate for the left-wing Union des forces progressistes in last provincial election. Khadir had attended a forum at UQAM and parked his car across the street.

The UQAM professor was also one of the lucky ones. Only the front lights of her car were broken.

The incident took place after concert-goers were told that the groups wouldn't be performing because some members of the group were refused entry into the country by Canada Customs, the French-language TV channel LCN reported.

Riot police with helmets and shields blocked off a several block area as the young people fled. Several arrests were reported.
Police admit to being caught off guard by riot outside Montreal club

Wednesday, October 15, 2003

MONTREAL (CP) - Montreal police admitted Wednesday they were caught off guard by the violence that erupted after the cancellation of a punk rock concert.

Police said 42 cars were damaged, including eight that went up in flames, after the crowd was told the bands wouldn't be performing because of immigration problems.

Three police cruisers and 11 stores were also vandalized in Tuesday night's riot, police said at a news conference. Three police officers and two security agents received minor injuries.

Seven people were arrested: one woman for armed assault, and five adults and one minor for mischief and disturbing the peace.

"The event surprised us, by its magnitude and the speed with which it happened," said Insp. Yves Surprenant.

"But you've got to understand we don't have people at every street corner in Montreal. They're spread all over the city and it takes time to get them all in one specific area and ready for action.

"We're not going to send in five officers to deal with several hundred people."

Several eyewitnesses complained about how long it took for police to arrive on scene.

A frightened Philippe Yeung, who lives above a copy shop next to the concert hall, said he called police five or six times before they arrived after more than a half hour.

"When the police came, the cars were already on fire, they were already overturned and (the rioters) were moving up the street," he said, noting that the windows to his store weren't insured.

Tearful student Sabrina Simard, inspecting the burned-out shell of her car, agreed with Yeung.

"I thought the policemen didn't arrive early enough," she said.

Once riot police with helmets and shields arrived, they cordoned off several blocks as the young people fled, smashing store windows along the way.

Paul Matte, co-owner of the Medley, where the show was to have taken place, said Wednesday the club learned from Immigration Canada at about 7:15 p.m. the bands - The Exploited and Total Chaos - wouldn't make it.

"About 15 or 20 minutes later, we got in touch with the police and said the show had to be cancelled," Matte said.

"It took about 10 minutes to send us one patrol car. They saw what was going on, the number of people, so they asked for five more cars. That's when we agreed together to tell people the show was off."

Matte blamed the show's promoter, saying the promoter told him The Exploited, who were the headliners, had cleared customs and were on their way.

MONTREAL (CP) - Angered by the cancellation of a punk rock concert, dozens of young people smashed windows and overturned cars, setting them ablaze on Tuesday night.

The young people, many sporting spiked-hair and cutoff jean jackets, rioted after they were told that the groups Total Chaos and The Exploited wouldn't be performing. Some members of The Exploited were refused entry into the country by Canada Customs.

"At 10 after 8 one of the organizers decided to come out and tell the crowd that was here that the concert was cancelled. At that point the crowd turned crazy and turned into a riot," Yannick Ouimet, a Montreal police spokesman reported.

It wasn't immediately clear how long the cancellation was known by the Medley hall before it was announced.

Hundreds of young people were waiting on the street for about 45 minutes before the violence began. Several then picked up material from a nearby construction site and hurled the items at cars and windows, said a witness.

Minutes later, at least four cars were overturned and set on fire, flames shooting out the side windows as firemen directed streams of water at them.

A one block area was littered with 24 cars that had their windows smashed.

Some of the rioters grabbed a computer from one of the stores and hurled it at a car. The windows of at least six stores, including a large music store, a clothing shop and a printer were smashed.

A frightened Philippe Yeung, who lives above the copy shop next to the concert hall, said he called police five or six times before they arrived after more than a half hour.

"When the police came, the cars were already on fire, they were already overturned and (the rioters) were moving up the street," he said, noting that the windows to his store weren't insured.

Once riot police with helmets and shields arrived, they blocked off a several block area as the young people fled, smashing store windows along the way.

Several people were arrested along city streets, with some placed into police cars whose windows had been smashed.

Several people were reportedly arrested trying to steal from the Archambault Music store after its windows and door glass were smashed.

"A riot isn't easy for anybody," said Archambault spokeswoman Natalie Lariviere. "We will do the work to ensure that everything is repaired for tomorrow."

A student at a nearby university told reporters that security people wouldn't let her and fellow students out of the building because of what was happening on the street.

When she was finally let out, she found that her car was one of those damaged. The back and side windows of her station wagon had been smashed.

"What can you do?" she shrugged.

A woman who watched the melee said she was shocked by the violence.

"I couldn't believe it was Montreal," an unidentified woman told said. "It's supposed to be a quiet, tranquil city and it's not."

Two police officers sustained minor injuries and workers at the concert hall were apparently injured by broken glass. The injuries were not serious, said police.
