i used to go to fender's ballroom almost every weekend. they had lots of great shows in the 80's after olympic auditorium stopped having shows. i have a few photos and some ticket stubs from fender's, but that's about it...i've lost all my flyers -

unfortunately, gang violence plagued this venue frequently - suicidals, south bay skins, oc skins, pds, s.o.s., and various cliques made this a seriously crazy spot at times. i've seen people getting chased around with knives there and have heard jaws breaking over music. hence, these Goldenvoice Productions shows were sometimes referred to as "Goldenviolence", and the club itself as "Fenders Baldroom" or "Brawlroom". despite all that, some of the best shows i've seen were there -

There should be tons of footage. I can't find it right now, but somewhere on the net there is a site by this video company that recorded several shows there for some French TV show in the 80's. Forget what all they recorded at Fenders. Believe it was the Violent Femmes, Iggy, and ??????? Also, if you can track down Al Flipside, he had lots of unused vid from there if I remember right. Rat Sound guys also would be a possible lead. What's the documentary about? Fenders?? Punk in general??? Also I wonder if John Fender is still alive? Last I heard he was going to prison for money laundering of his cocain profits back in the late 80's. Though I don't think he had a lot to do with the shows.

My visit to fenders........we dropped some black star acid on the way in to corrosion of conformity. lots of punk gangs.....so high we sat in back watching suicidals kicking everyone until they saw us .... laughed..... and lefted..... kinda scary.
